Brighter Futures with Green SSynergy’s Smart Energy Management

Harnessing the power of the sun is no longer a science fiction, through various scientific advancements, our civilization discovered how to convert the sun’s rays into energy for personal and industrial use. However, we continually look for ways to do this more efficiently, innovating through systems that prioritize cost reduction while optimizing energy use.

Funded through DOST-CRADLE, the Department of Science and Technology - Region II created an Intelligent Energy Management System (EMS) called the Green Synergy. This innovation drives the solar energy industry toward greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness for homes, businesses, and solar home system (SHS) providers.

Green Synergy: The Science Behind

The Green SSynergy EMS is not just an energy monitoring tool, but it is an active manager of energy consumption. Utilizing the smart real-time problem-solving abilities of AI predictions and machine learning algorithms, this system synchronizes energy generation with consumption - providing actionable insights that translate to significant cost savings.

This innovation’s features include peak load shifting, fault management, and automatic outage responses. With an intuitive online dashboard, you can actively maintain control and sustainability in your hands.

Led by Engr. Adel Ignacio-Parungao, who is an expert in this field, shared her vision for innovation: to create a sustainable solution that can deliver the optimal benefits of Photovoltaic (PV) systems to households and communities through AI integration.

When we conceptualized this innovation, our goal was to address the gap in energy management systems by integrating machine learning. We want to create a bankable HESS to commodify a reliable and viable PV system in the Philippines.

Ignacio-Parungao added that Green SSynergy is not just about cutting costs; it is about redefining the way we think about energy consumption. By leveraging distributed energy resources, the system enables users to earn carbon credits, turning green energy adoption into an economically viable decision.

Unlike conventional energy solutions, Green SSynergy’s EMS is a plug-and-play system designed for effortless integration. The system uses Long-lasting lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries rated to last over 4,000 charge cycles, ensuring its longevity and reliability.

Green-novations for the Future

Making the shift towards a smarter, and sustainable tomorrow, Green SSynergy addresses multiple global sustainable development goals for clean energy, sustainable communities, and climate action.

The first iteration of Green SSynergy, HESS, has already seen practical application with the integration of its prototype on personal medical equipment applications. This application is a testament that this system has the potential to provide long-term impact not only on the industry but also on individual lives.

One of our beneficiaries is Mr. and Mrs. Feliciano. They are both senior citizens and Mr. Feliciano is using a ventilator every day for his illness… They used to pay an expensive amount for their electricity bill because of the machine. According to them, when they started using our HESS for the machine and some other appliances, they began to notice that their electricity bill was lower by half

Ignacio-Parungao shared her vision to put up a spinoff company in the future, selling multiple iterations suitable for various customer segments in the global market. She also expressed gratitude for being granted the opportunity to showcase and participate at the CES 2025.

By combining advanced technology applications, a clear vision, and a desire to foster a more sustainable future, Green SSynergy is putting the Philippines on the global market alongside other international players with the same vision. Ignacio-Parungao added that aside from promoting their local innovation, they are eyeing forming linkages and investors to expand the product’s reach and continue to help communities.

She shared that while they have already seen success for their product, they are still improving their project further. Ultimately, she expressed confidence in the prospect of Filipino ingenuity competing globally on par with first-world nations.
