Environmentally-friendly, non-toxic, tunable fluorescent Carbon Quantum Dots for environmental monitoring for pollutant detection and sensors for various chemical and biological applications.

One of the developments comes from the DOST-ITDI, which has unveiled the Carbon Quantum Dot Sensor for Food Packaging. This eco-friendly solution turns bio waste into carbon quantum dots, promoting circular economy principles while also tackling critical issues of waste management. The technology offers improvements in wastewater remediation, offering a high-efficiency, low-impact alternative to traditional water treatment methods.

This technology demonstrates how waste can be repurposed to address broader environmental challenges by leveraging biowaste. The sensor not only reduces environmental strain but also delivers a cost-effective solution that can scale to meet the needs of both small and large-scale water systems.

DIMER (Decentralized Intelligent Model Exchange Repository), developed by DOST-ASTI, represents the AI adoption readiness level in the Philippines. This online platform offers pre-trained, modular AI models that can be easily applied across various sectors such as agriculture, disaster management, and urban planning. DIMER allows more public access to AI technologies, effectively giving the community the ability to utilize AI in their everyday solutions.

What makes DIMER unique is its collaborative, community-driven approach. Not only does it offer ready-to-use AI models, but it also allows users to contribute - building a shared ecosystem of knowledge that continuously evolves.

Holding the Skies Together: Sustainable Aviation Pili Seal

In an innovative breakthrough, Engr. Mark Kennedy Bantugon has developed Pili Seal, a sustainable adhesive and sealant made from agricultural waste. What sets Pili Seal apart is its use of resin from the Pili tree, a material that would otherwise go to waste. Not only does Pili Seal offer a cost-effective and non-toxic alternative to traditional adhesives and sealants, but it also supports the circular economy by repurposing millions of kilograms of agricultural waste each year.

Ideal for use in the aviation and construction sectors, Pili Seal serves as both a sealant and adhesive, offering strength and elasticity while maintaining environmental sustainability. Pili Seal positions itself as a pioneer in the bio-based sealant market.

Pili Seal has been tested in the actual environment of the aviation industry with the help of Lufthansa Technik Group and currently engaged in securing the approval and certification from key aviation standard authorities such as Airbus and Boeing aircraft manufacturers.
