Parallaxed and TRIOE: BSU’s Innovative Educational Solutions

Batangas State University (BatStateU), established in 1903, is a leading educational hub offering 46 accredited engineering degrees developed technologies like ParallaxED and TRIOE to enhance student learning.  One of the technologies, ParallaxED, funded by a ₱2.5 million DOST-TAPI TECHNiCOM grant, aims to make learning more interactive and cost-effective. The Technology Innovation for Commercialization Program (TECHNiCOM) itself accelerates R&D commercialization, empowering technopreneurs with grants and support programs.

The ParallaxED Engineering Simulation System uses Mixed Reality (MR) to enhance the education and training experience.  This innovation bridges the gap between theoretical learning and practical application in engineering through an innovative mixed-reality platform.  ParallaxED also provides a cost-effective and engaging way to simulate real-world engineering scenarios, enabling enhanced learning and decision-making.

In one of his interviews, Engr. Albertson D. Amante, lead developer of ParallaxED and Vice President of Research and Innovation at BSU, explained that they have developed the technology to solve problems related to the lack of access to laboratories. Accessing laboratories can be costly, and conducting certain experiments can sometimes be dangerous; that’s why a virtual alternative has been developed.

Among ParallaxED's features are Mixed Reality Integration, which combines physical and virtual elements to create a seamless simulation environment; Real-Time Interaction, which allows users to manipulate and observe engineering models in dynamic, real-time scenarios; Multi-Device Compatibility, which is compatible with various MR devices that support WebXR; Customizable Modules tailored for different engineering disciplines, such as civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering; and Collaborative Features, which support multi-user environments, enabling teamwork in simulations.

Since ParallaxED caters to a rapidly growing global market for simulation and training systems in engineering education and industrial applications, universities, training centers, and manufacturing firms are potential markets for this technology. The technology enhances skills development, especially in developing countries with limited access to advanced engineering tools.

The mixed-reality market is expected to grow globally, driven by advancements in augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies.  ParallaxED, with its immersive and cost-effective approach-less expensive than physical prototypes and infrastructure, is poised to disrupt traditional training methods.

The other engaging and practical technology developed by BSU was TRIOE, an online learning platform that serves as a knowledge bank for learning the Internet of Everything (IoE).  TRIOE is dedicated to providing comprehensive and practical Internet of Everything (IoE) education. Unlike the passive traditional learning model, TRIOE offers a blend of interactive learning, real-world projects, and a community of innovators.  This platform encourages learning from the experts, collaboration with peers, and skills development, enabling its users to solve problems.

TRIOE encourages hands-on learning by allowing users to actively use and learn from it for exploration and innovation in the domain of IoE.  This innovation provides the subscribed users with an interactive and customizable cloud-based dashboard for various sensors and actuators. It powers practically everything, allowing the users to create, collaborate, and innovate, whether in the classrooms, laboratory or even in their smart homes. 

TRIOE's target audience encompasses diverse learners, including senior high school students pursuing STEM tracks, electronics enthusiasts seeking to expand their knowledge, and researchers actively developing IoE products. 

To reach these groups, TRIOE partnered with electronics distributors and university shops, actively participates in university benchmarking activities, and cultivates a vibrant community through its dedicated website. Through this multi-pronged approach, TRIOE aims to democratize access to IoE education and foster a dynamic ecosystem of learners and innovators.
